Salam Aleikum everyone! I am Shrouk El-Attar, a neurodivergent British-Egyptian artist and electronics engineer deeply invested in decolonising the field of engineering. My passion for integrating culture and technology breathes life into my projects, particularly in teaching underrepresented communities how to embrace tech and engineering through our own heritage.

The centrepiece is Zooka (as named by my mum!), a bellydancing robot. This project, developed during my residency with Vital Capacities, features an AI model I created from scratch.

This model interprets Egyptian percussion rhythms (whether voiced as “doom” and “tak” or tapped out on a table) allowing Zooka to dance to rhythms created by YOU. This interactive experience not only showcases the capabilities of bespoke AI but also celebrates cultural heritage, inviting you to engage directly with the technology and witness a unique blend of robotics, AI, and my Egyptian heritage.

Thank you for exploring this fusion of technology and tradition with me!
