Artist Introduction

Finding in the seeking – ‘mark of my departure (MOMD)’ is an ever-expanding project that has arrived in a single place – finally. Still shifting in its forms and styles of revelation – it blends works of process and result offering a synthesis of this part of the journey. Using motifs borrowed from hip-hop, Sufism and South Asian culture, MOMD is an emotional first-person narrative journey, an archive of familial displacement, and a discourse on colonialism and postcolonial styles of belonging. MOMD can be viewed with or without captions or listened to as a standalone work with audio description. The orbiting pieces are lines of inquiry that are brought up from questions in the main body. From the margin to the metropole, the environment this work sits in is intended to be navigated playfully without directive.
