Whole New Worlds

Katarzyna Perlak
Tzu Huan Lin
Vishal Kumaraswamy

For this residency we brought together artists from across the globe, Tzu-Huan Lin, a New York-based Taiwanese artist, Katarzyna Perlak, a London-based Polish artist, and Vishal Kumaraswamy, a Bangalore-based artist recently relocated from London.

During their residencies, the three artists explored diverse themes, reflecting on the globalised nature of our world, including folklore, mythology, AI technology and ideas of utopia.

For his residency, Tzu-Huan Lin worked on developing a virtual utopia on Mozilla Hubs, delivering workshops with international participants, inviting them to create their own utopian worlds. In Lin’s exhibition, you can explore the utopias through Mozilla Hubs, and watch a tour through the space conducted by the artist.

Katarzyna Perlak used the residency period to research the development of a new film, through which she plans to retell British folklore from the perspective of an Eastern European migrant. Perlak has created three new images, collages which give a glimpse at her vision for the new film.

While in residence, Vishal Kumaraswamy explored ways in which to bring together conflicting research, in particular where issues of Caste & Race meet technology. He also explored different media formats, technology and language, interactivity and AI technology, resulting in new videos and sound work.

Please take the opportunity to look at the exhibition, and also visit the artists’ studio spaces to see the journey they took during May 2021.

Thanks to Arts Council England for their support.
