Tuesday: my mum and I go for a slow walk – carefully navigating and registering every slight change in surface, every minute change in level, avoiding every raised kerb and seeking solace in the shade. It is a form of attentive and responsive, embodied and situated research. Yet this mode of attention is not voluntary. It is born out of non-negotiable necessity and exposes the frictions of the built environment that often remain invisible to those who move through it more easily.
