Helen Stratford is a socially engaged artist, architect, and researcher with a practice-based PhD from the University of Sheffield, UK (2021). Working with performative workshops, site-specific interventions, video, speculative writing, and discursive platforms, which often deploy humour and parody, her practice searches for modalities that expand architectural conventions to challenge spatial prejudices produced at the intersections of social, cultural, economic and political relations. Informed by her lived experience of chronic pain and personal health histories, funded by a recent DYCP grant (2025) she is currently exploring crip time (en)counters with public space, ecology, architecture and productivity. 

Her work has been developed, presented, performed, and exhibited at international residencies and platforms, including V&A London/Dundee (2025/26), Potter Museum of Art Melbourne (2024), Bloc Projects Sheffield (2024), Yorkshire Sculpture Park (2021), Oslo Architecture Triennale, Kettle’s Yard, g39, and Wysing Arts Centre. She is part time Senior Lecturer in Architecture and an Early Career Research and Innovation Fellow at Sheffield Hallam University, and Advisory Board member of The Disordinary Architecture Project. Her work is also published in peer reviewed journals, alongside artists’ books and pages, and she is currently working on a publication with ACHE intersectional feminist press.
